Sacroiliac Pain in Grand Rapids MI

Back Pain due to sciatica Grand Rapids MI

Region Overview
The Pelvis consists of 3 major structures: the sacrum and the left and right Ilium. There are two sacroiliac (SI) joints where the sacrum and each ilium articulate. Overall, the pelvis is a very stable region but is a common cause of pain and discomfort. When a structure in the pelvis is subluxated (misalignment causing nerve pressure/interference) there is typically a complex of true subluxation and compensation to decipher which can make the examination process more time consuming.

Most Common Causes
80% of people (male and female, all ages) will experience mechanical low back pain at some point in their lifetime. The lumbar spine, sacrum and SI joints create a complicated complex of issues at which any one could be the cause of the discomfort. When one area is subluxated, it is common to have several compensations in the nearby joints. SI joint pain can be very specific and local or can be described as general lower back pain. Physical examination and X-rays are recommended to determine the true cause of the dysfunction. 50-90% of women develop low back pain during pregnancy. Ligamentous laxity, whether caused by pregnancy or injury, leads to joint hypermobility, joint instability, and discomfort.
